LEGAL ASSISTANTS: Registration is possible by returning a completed registration form and check to the LSBA OR you may register at the conference by check only. Online registration for legal assistants is possible only through a lawyer. Legal assistants may attend any session of the conference for $200, or attend the morning sessions "TECH TIPS I AND II: NO LAWYERS ALLOWED” for $35 per session.

Thursday's Tech Tips I will cover how to use common tech tools more smoothly and efficiently, and Friday's Tech Tips II will cover the fundamentals of marketing through client handling, social media and web publishing. Each TECH TIPS session is one hour, and provides a smaller forum for the assistant to get questions answered. Both sessions will be presented by Gail O'Connor, a law office manager consultant. AMONG THE FEATURED SPEAKERS ARE:

SHARON D. NELSON, is the President of Sensei Enterprises, Inc., a computer forensics, information security and legal technology firm in Fairfax, Virginia. A graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, she has been in private practice, concentrating exclusively in electronic evidence law. The current president of the Virginia Bar Association, she is the former Chair of the American Bar Association’s Law Practice Management Publishing Board, the Law Practice Management Education Board and the TECHSHOW. She is a co-author with John Simek of these ABA publications: Locked Down: Information Security for Lawyers (2012), The Electronic Evidence and Discovery Handbook: Forms, Checklists and Guidelines (2006) and Information Security for Lawyers and Law Firms (2006), as well as The 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 Solo and Small Firm Legal Technology Guides. She is also a co-author of How Good Lawyers Survive Bad Times (ABA, 2009). She is also the creator of the noted electronic evidence blog, Ride the Lightning and co-hosts with Simek the ABA podcast series, “The Digital Edge: Lawyers and Technology” and the Legal Talk Network podcast “Digital Detectives.”

JOHN W. SIMEK, the Vice President of Sensei Enterprises, Inc., is a nationally known testifying expert in the area of digital forensics. He holds a degree in engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and an MBA in finance from Saint Joseph’s University. After forming Sensei, he ended his 20+ year affiliation with Mobil Oil Corporation, where he served as a senior technologist designing and troubleshooting Mobil’s networks throughout the western hemisphere. Mr. Simek has in-depth experience with network troubleshooting, hardware and software implementations, systems integration, and logistical and financial expertise in a wide range of computer engineering designs and solutions. He has an extensive knowledge of multi-protocol environments and a diverse range of networking technologies.

REID TRAUTZ is a lawyer, author, and blogger on the issues of management, technology, legal ethics, and attorney-client communications. Over the past decade, Reid has helped thousands of lawyers solve their most difficult management issues with innovative, ethical and practical solutions. Prior to his focus on the business of practicing law, Reid was a partner in a five-lawyer firm in Alexandria, Virginia. Reid is co-author of The Busy Lawyer's Guide to Success: Essential Tips to Power Your Practice, published by the ABA. He recently served as the chair of the ABA TECHSHOW 2012, the legal profession’s premier technology conference.

DAN LUKASIK is the managing partner at the law firm of Bernhardi Lukasik PLLC in Buffalo, New York where he litigates cases in state and federal courts across New York State. In 2008, he created Lawyerwithdepression.com, the first website and blog of its kind in the country, to help law students, lawyers and judges cope with and heal from depression. The site and Dan’s work have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The National Law, Trial Magazine and several other national and international publications. He is was the recipient of The Distinguished Alumni Award for Public Service from The University at Buffalo School of Law and The Award of Merit from the Erie County Bar Association. He is also the Executive Producer of the documentary, A Terrible Melancholy: Depression in the Legal Profession and is currently writing a book about depression and lawyers.
